Port Harcourt City: Serious Confusion in My Neighborhood

It may no longer be news if you hear that people are being brutally killed in what has generally being described as cult clashes, in Rivers State, to the extent that beheading of persons seems as normal as the killing of chicken, for celebration. Many have argued that this incessant killing is an extension of a total breakdown of security of life and properties in Nigeria as a country.  It may not also be news to hear that the Government of Rivers State has recently launched what she called a “new security architecture” code-named “Operation Sting” in which about 70 Vehicles including Gunboats and other security devices were handed over to the security agencies. Is Christianity more about doing good or preaching Christ? In the words of Henry David Thoreau “, I put a piece of paper under my pillow, and when I could not sleep I wrote in the dark.” My opinion may not be popular, but the truth is that events only take place in the minds of people who can tell the story. No wonder a great writer Anton Chekhov emphasized that an emancipated thinker is he who is not afraid to write foolish things. As a little boy growing up in a somewhat disciplined but complex Christian family unit, I was taught to do good to all men at all-time whenever I have the opportunity to do so. Yes, to all men with no exception; for whatsoever a man sowed, that is what he will reap. Many years down the line, this idea remained as fresh as an early morning breeze in my sub-consciousness, and it will linger until proven wrong. For the purpose of intellectual balance, I will not be making reference to any biblical verse, so that our teaming army of religious bigot ...
